Now more than ever, we need leaders who are ready to assume their
rightful properly training on the many facets required in order to run a
success campaign and effective lead others in these trying times.
Douglass Leadership Institute promises to do just that. Through the use of
short term workshops and more intense training programs, we are
determine to assist the future generation of leaders in attaining the
political skills, moral, ethical and spiritual capacities, life skills and vision
necessary to enable them to meet the demanding challenges of the future.

DLI primary focus will be our nine months program which will target those
individuals seeking to be the new generation of leaders responsible for
creating unwavering public policies that support free enterprise, limited
government and traditional values. Targeting individuals identified as
racial minorities, participation is not limited to any particular group of
people or restricted to a particular party affiliation.

The Douglass Leadership Institute Fellows will:

  • Develop broad awareness of the roles and challenges, as well as,
    potential  opportunities for the foreseeable future at all levels, for
    minorities and others to provide and serve in leadership roles
  • Expand knowledge of the public policy process for the
    commonwealth
  • Assess current leadership skills in relationship to community needs
    in order to promote collaborative and transformational leadership
  • Enhance awareness of group dynamics, consensus building, critical
    thinking and ethics for more effective civic participation
  • Gain insights into operational dynamics of campaigning, fund
    raising and lobbying, and the significance and impact of the media
    in political life
  • Experience politics in action to garner networks, contacts and
    resources across the country for information sharing, support and
    problem solving

Established and operated by the Network of Politically Active Christians
(NPAC) and The Frederick Douglass Foundation, DLI is nine month
curriculum is comprised of four main elements: personal leadership and
spiritual development, public policy process and analysis, effective
governance, and practical politics. These elements are combined to
provide a diversified and challenging program. Class topics range from
the biblical role of civil government, basic constitutional jurisprudence,
state and local government issues, media-savvy, fund raising, coalitions
and opposition, campaigning, and advocacy.
